Sure we’ve all heard of the video game addict, sex addict, drug addict, etc., but what about the less obvious? What if you are unknowingly addicted or hooked on something that you would actually have “withdrawals” without? Even if its simply a psychological addiction, it’s not necessarily a good thing to be hooked on something that is unnecessary to our health and well-being. Here are 5 things you never knew you could get hooked on.

1. Smartphone

This might not be a huge surprise, but it’s definitely common enough to mention. Whether it’s a specific app we can’t get enough of (Facebook, Twitter) or whatever, many of us have an unhealthy relationship with our devices.

2. Fast Food

This is as addictive as nicotine for some people, and very easy to fall into this trap. It’s so convenient, cheap, and tasty; but if you pay attention to what your body tells you, you’ll soon realize that fast food is slowly killing you. It drains your energy like crazy and it’s easy to attribute the lower energy levels to other environmental things out of your control, and that’s a mistake. It’s the fast food.

3. Shopping

You don’t need 200 pairs of shoes. You don’t need the most expensive purse. The truth is that you’re not really impressing as many people as you think you are. This is an expensive mistake. Take a break from it and see how you feel and how much money you’ve saved.

4. Always in a relationship, even if it’s a bad one.

This is a fear of being alone or lonely. A fear of being judged. It’s also ridiculous. Everyone needs some time to themselves, especially if they’re reinventing themselves. We all need space.

5. Seeking approval and validation from everyone for everything you do.

This is sort of similar to #4, in that, it’s a fear of being judged or ostracized or something similar. To truly be happy, you need the courage to be different. In other words, you need the courage to be yourself. Courage is the magic word for #4 and #5.
